It has a population of about 3.5 million people with diverse cultures including a large Indian community making Durban the second largest city in South Africa. Durban has an exotic mix of oriental plazas, cathedrals, mosques, temples and festivals of traditional Zulus performing tribal dances.

Durban is home to South Africa 's only surfing museum , and is one of the most surf-friendly cities in the world. Durban has container docks as well as two yacht clubs and a great little cultural spot right in the middle of the harbour called the BAT centre.
